4:36 pm - Lisa Hannigan interview

Thought you lot might get a kick out of this.  Stay tuned to when she's asked about what Irish band she'd like to be a part of ;)

11:46 pm - oh, Canada

My newspaper puts out a music podcast and Colm was featured this week!

He was compared to Toronto/Canadian phenom Owen Pallet (Final Fantasy), so I can forgive the columnists' hilarious pronunciation of Colm's name.  It was nice to see him featured though, since most of the music on here is Canadian.

Anyways, if anyone's interested it's up here - they play The Blue Shoes, off Colm's album.

12:13 am - New cover...

Just found this on youtube - The Frames covering Hank Williams.  Apparently from a radio show from last year in Colorado.  Anyhow, just thought I'd share...

ETA: A podcast of the show is up on iTunes under "etown"  (but since they talk all over this song, here's a rip of the youtube vid)

10:57 am - Mic Christopher: Troubadour

Irish Music Central was good enough to post up the Leargas Tribute to Mic Christopher. Glen and Colm are featured heavily in the clips, as well as Mic's family and other musicians. The special culminates with footage from the Skylarkin' gig. It's a truly moving tribute to a talented musician.

4:38 pm - Once in Atlanta!!!

Hey everybody!
I saw Glen and Mar live on Tuesday in Atlanta and the show was absolutely amazing!!!! :D
I'm not exactly sure what I was expecting (possibly something different from seeing just the Frames?) but let me tell you that you will not be disappointed! I saw them in a new and very large arena up in northwest Atlanta and although Glen seemed a little disconcerted that the room was too big, they f**kin' rocked the house! There was so much energy in the room and the crowd erupted in applause when the band walked out. It wasn't just Mar, it was everyone. All of the Frames were there and Colm was on fire. The sound out of everyone was so clear and crisp. Glen said Mar had bet him $100 that he couldn't be quiet and he lost... big time. ;) But I was glad he did because he was in fine form and told tons of stories and talked about all of the songs, offering up new perspective on new ones as well as old favorites. The set list was amazing as well but I won't spoil the surprises you might have if you see them! ;) Marketa played lead guitar and sang frequently and joined Glen up front for many of the better known Frames songs as well as quite a few covers! It was an absolutely incredible and magical night!!!

I was a little far away so my pictures turned out pretty bad, but Thanks to Flickr member Patcave I can share these with you!

Images shared with permission and you can see more pictures here!

5:35 pm - Halloween DVD

I uploaded this for a few people on my friends list and thought I'd cross post it here.  It's a pretty great gig.  It's the Halloween Ball gig from 2004 - recorded by RTE Two at the Mansion House, Dublin.

The boys seem to have really enjoyed it, the audience is in great form, and the quality of the recording is great.  There's only one blip where a random commercial sneaks in near the end.  You don't miss anything though, and it barely lasts a few seconds.

I'm pretty sure you need to download all the files to get this to work.  It's just over 3GB total, for a one and half hour show.  Once everything's downloaded, unzip it using the smallest file, the actual .zip file.

To play it, VLC Media Player (free to download) works for me: File > Open Directory > Open the folder with all the video files in them.

I apologize if this comes up more than once for you, I've crossposted it a few places.  And of course, if the links die, feel free to ask for another upload.  I'll try my best!  This was an absolute pain in the ass to get up, so comments are always appreciated...

7:33 pm - Just out of curiosity...

I found this photo of a prop from a Halloween gig The Frames did in 2004, and I was just wondering if anyone knew who the initials stood for?

10:53 pm - Take this sinking boat and point it home.

Glen and Marketa won! Marketa was cut off, but then got to come back and give this beautiful speech.

Marketa Irglova: “Hi everyone. I just want to thank you so much. This is such a big deal, not only for us, but for all other independent musicians and artists that spend most of their time struggling, and this, the fact that we’re standing here tonight, the fact that we’re able to hold this, it’s just to prove no matter how far out your dreams are, it’s possible. And, you know, fair play to those who dare to dream and don’t give up. And this song was written from a perspective of hope, and hope at the end of the day connects us all, no matter how different we are. And so thank you so much, who helped us along way. Thank you.”

10:11 am - Awards nomination

I'm sure many people have heard this already, but Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova have, indeed, been nominated for an Academy Award for "Falling Slowly."

Looking at the other nominees, I'm liking their chances.

7:52 pm - The Swell Season, Toronto '07

So, I assume it's ok to put up some Swell Season material from the latest tour?  (I only ask because there hasn't really been much lately)

In any case, I've got some pictures up on flickr (and my LJ), and a few youtube videos.

The show was phenomenal.  Toronto did get a premiere for Once, but Marketa couldn't make it over the border (believe me, the first thing I'll do with my law degree/diplomatic post is give these guys immunity from all that border nonsense).. so it was an absolute pleasure to finally hear her sing!  Such a captivating voice for so small a person.

A lot of my highlights from the night involve the moments when she took over center stage - e.g. Fantasy Man, and during Star Star, where she went into Oh Holy Night

Hello, all! I was thrilled last night when Colm played his solo The Blue Shoes at the Swell Season gig. I don't suppose anyone has a recording of it? :)

5:01 pm

I was wondering if anyone had two extra tickets to The Swell Season this Friday, November 23rd at the Danforth Music Hall in Toronto. I was lazy and last minute, and underanticipated the fervour that Once would inspire, and now desperately want to go, but of course it's sold out. If anybody has extra tickets, I would be really happy to take them off your hands....

1:50 pm - Glen Hansard "Cry Me a River" Cover

The Swell Season concert two nights ago.
Someone in the audience screamed "CRY ME A RIVER!" So, here's Glen pulling it out of thin air and doing a fantastic job! Soon, the rest of the band joined in and it was a lovely time. :D

12:30 am - 4 'once' icons

just saw 'once' the other day (highly recommended to all people who love music, not just frames fans), and i couldn't resist making some icons. they're just simple cap-cut-n-resize icons, so feel free to make them prettier if you take any. comments + credit = nice. my personal fave is #4.

01. .. 02. .. 03. .. 04. .

4:27 am - I love it so far ...

With the installation of an updated iTunes and some metaphorical kicking of my dying computer, I've finally managed to burn "dance the devil ..." onto an audio CD months upon months after dowloading it from the iTunes store. This is momentous because it means I *finally*, ten years after finding a copy of fitzcarraldo in a used CD dollar bin and having it change my damned life, have on audio CD every studio album The Frames have put out! Hooray!

The downside of iTunes is ... no CD insert. *is sad*

So, I thought I'd prevail upon you lovely people to see if anyone who has the physical album would be willing to scan (or photograph, if you have a decent camera and a steady hand) the insert for me and post the images somewhere or e-mail them to me? To fully enjoy the steady frames diet I have planned for the next few weeks before I fly up to New York to see them (another finally!), I need to be able to read the liner notes.

So ... anyone willing to oblige?

*looks pitiful*
